I honestly never imagined I would be blogging to the world about anything, but you know it’s 2024- here we are! Here is a little dip in to my background so you can get to know me a little. I’m from SC -born, raised, still here. I grew up hunting, fishing, playing sports– pretty much raised like a little boy… but I am oh so a girl. I was the smart jock; went to college on a softball scholarship- graduated with honors from nursing school. Several years of working as a RN motivated me to go back for my Master’s in Nursing.
I was an ED nurse in a rural hospital. An adrenaline junkie. The CPR queen and the fast track princess. I could move patients through the ER like a smooth river’s stream, and I handled the mean and ungrateful with grace (most of the time). One day a kid came in with a GSW (gun shot wound) to the chest. I held his hand, and told him I was there; I started CPR. He was my little boy’s age, and he didn’t make it.
That experience helped me make the decision to step away from emergency nursing for a while– low and behold a transfer to the nursery. Oh BABY! I learned all about babies coming in to the world. I really enjoyed it, but I was tired of working 12 hour shifts. My body would ache the shifts were over… I mean ache. Lay in the bath tub with epsom salt ache- it was no joke, and I was in my 20’s at the time. After much consideration, the decision was made to go back to school for my Master’s in Nursing. Went through a divorce, became a single mom, worked in the nursery, went to school; worked my arse off! Eighteen months later- BAM! I’m a FNP.
So I bet you’re wondering… well what do you do now as a FNP? I have an 8-5 week day job working as a pediatric NP in a private rural office in my town, and I love it! I’m able to go to my kids’ extracurricular activities in the afternoons and on the weekends. I don’t have to think about what days my shifts are on, because they are the same days/times every single week! No more body aches/pains when I get off, and I always get a lunch now! My bladder is also very happy for me. Here on my site, I will be telling stories of things I have seen throughout my career, and also give educational advice on health and wellness. I look forward to getting to know each you through the blog!
